I have created many email campaigns over the years. The feeling one gets when it is sent out is just sheer happiness.

I design custom emails used for events and other marketing. eg. Event Invitations, post event "Thank yous", Sales, Webinars etc.

The whole layout is HTML, keeping the text in the mail as HTML text so people can read the mail without having to download the images. This also ensures that the mail is small and will pass through business servers, who will bounce the mail away if there are embedded images. Please see my porfolio

Email campaigns require that the HTML code used to layout the mail is very old. This is partly because Microsoft Outlook reads HTML and CSS like it was written way back when monitors were CRT greenscreen - ok maybe not that old be still a long time ago, and partly because all email clients [gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc] read email slighty differently.

The email campaign should not contain attachments.

The email is the campaign! No attachments.
ie The email is HTML text - and no attachments, no pdfs no jpegs...

Images used in the mail must not be embedded in the mail. The mail might be bounced otherwise.

Images need to be hosted on a server somewhere to be pulled into the mail.
Small hosting required.

Email campaigns should be exciting and engaging visually. Must be pretty or is a fail

There should be a call to action - like a register here or something.

All logos in a design should link to the companies website.
